Job Description
We are seeking a full-time, regular Workday Financial Analyst to join the Ocean Engineering (OE) Department, to function as an independent subject matter expert for Workday Financial business processes. As the Workday Financial Analyst, you are entrusted with managing substantial financial resources that are critical to the success of Federally funded sponsored research within OE. You will function independently and provide critical operational support for Workday and related UW Systems (e.g., SAGE Budget/Award/Mod, Award Portal, BI Portal) pre- and post-award tasking, contacting internal and external stakeholders to clarify award requirements and updating Workday Financials and other systems as needed throughout the award life cycle (setup, management, and closeout).

- Lead critical use and functionality of Workday and related UW systems as the subject matter expert for all APL researchers.
- Directly impact and shape the systems and processes of using Workday Financials within OE.
- Collaborate with the Lead Research and Operations Administrator on Workday and Financial Transformation questions, and identify and suggest solutions to potential issues resulting from Workday Financials and Financial Transformation business processes.

As an Ocean Engineering Workday Financial Analyst, you will…
- Manage and prepare complex sponsored research budgets using UW Financial Transformation systems (e.g., Workday, SAGE Budget) and ensure that budgets meet the requirements of the new Workday foundation data model, funding opportunity announcements, and APL and UW proposal requirements.
- Perform award and award modification submission, tracking, troubleshooting, and resolution using Workday and other UW financial transformation systems.
- Perform a detailed review of awards, modifications, and budgets in Workday to confirm proper setup and integration. Troubleshoot and resolve all issues.
- Improve Workday processes, tools, documentation, and communication through partnership and collaboration with the Lead Research and Operations Administrator, Research Departmental Administrator, and other research administrative staff to further enhance the service provided to Principal Investigator (PIs).
- Identify and document gaps in Workday policies and procedures for pre- and post-award administrative functions. May create Workday Financial job aids for other administrators or researchers.
- Develop systems and tools to provide regular updates to researchers and department administrators regarding changes in Workday financials, especially those that might impact departmental procedures.
- Collaborate and work closely with other Research Departmental Administrators to provide Workday training.
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline and a minimum of two (2) years of experience working in pre- and post-award sponsored research administration. This experience is critical to understanding the tasks to be performed in Workday and other financial transformation systems.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and use new technical tools and systems (e.g., Workday and other UW financial transformation systems).
- Demonstrated a high level of technical literacy and agility.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills especially with Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and ownership of work, successfully prioritize, and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.?
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, and resourcefulness and manage competing priorities using strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated accountability – drives for results, displays a sense of ownership, and is passionate about attaining goals and surpassing expectations.
- Demonstrated trouble-shooter and problem-solver, with a desire to improve systems.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. While not required, you’ll stand out if you have…
- Experience at the University of Washington or other R1 Universities.
- Experience with common sponsor systems such as Research.gov, Grants.gov, and NSPIRES.
- Prior experience with Workday HR/P and/or Financials.
- Interest in scientific discovery, engineering, technology, acoustics, and/or oceanography.
